What's Happening?

Revelstoke's favourite recreation area is at risk. Current provincial land use management and policy do not allow for inclusive decision making for this important multi-use area.

“The Macpherson recreational area is at the heart of Revelstoke's year round mountain tourism industry. Macpherson is home to some of Revelstoke's most accessible and enjoyable mountain biking, running, hiking and Nordic ski trails."

People from all over the world come to Revelstoke to enjoy mountain culture at its best. Provincial land use policies and process need to evolve to include the voice of all those who stand to gain from this priceless resource.

We all have a vested interest in how recreational lands adjacent to our communities are managed. Today's fight is Macpherson but many fights are fought in your own backyard. It's time to create more inclusive land use policies in beautiful British Columbia.

What do we Stand to Lose?

Mt. Macpherson's unlogged areas are composed of mature forest which hosts mountain biking, hiking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, berry picking and many more activities for thousands of local and visiting recreationalists.

Volunteers have put thousands of hours into the Mt. Macpherson trail system, along with substantial financial contributions from organisations such as the Revelstoke Cycling Association, which manages local membership dues as well as grants from the Columbia Basin Trust and the province. Mt. Macpherson contributes a significant amount of tourism revenue to Revelstoke - our economic lifeline to a sustainable future.
